Security
What is corporate digital identity?
A company’s digital identity represents it online, enabling it to authenticate, access services, and sign documents. That is why it is essential to ensure it is used appropriately and to control access to it: not every authenticated user should be able to use every digital certificate.
Why is it important to control and protect a company's digital perimeter?
Redtrust views digital identity as the first line of defense, with access restricted to authorized users. Without clear controls and certificate storage policies, companies are exposed to risks such as:
- Misuse or unauthorized use of their digital identity
- Unauthorized access to sensitive systems and data
- Unexpected certificate expiration, which can disrupt critical authentication or digital signing processes
- Lack of traceability over certificate use
What is a digital certificate manager?
A digital certificate manager is a tool that lets companies centralize, control, and protect their digital certificates and manage how they are used. Certificates are stored in a secure environment, and the company can:
- Define who can use each certificate
- Control how and when certificates are used
- Log all activity for auditing
- Receive alerts before certificates expire
This helps reduce the risk of misuse, prevent certificates from being lost, and support compliance with security policies.
What are the risks of not managing digital certificates?
Failing to control digital certificates can lead to misuse, security breaches, and compliance issues. The main risks include:
- Unauthorized use of certificates
- Unauthorized access to sensitive systems and data
- Unannounced certificate expiration, causing service interruptions
- Lack of traceability over certificate use
- Difficulty conducting audits and meeting regulatory requirements
These problems can result in financial losses, operational disruptions and reputational damage.
Why is controlling digital certificates important for protecting a company's digital identity?
Controlling digital certificates is essential because they are used to establish a company’s digital identity in online transactions and to create legally binding signatures. Without proper controls, a certificate can be misused to:
- Sign documents on behalf of the company
- Authorize fraudulent or unauthorized transactions
- Access sensitive systems and data
Because these actions can have legal consequences, misuse can lead to financial losses, legal exposure, and reputational damage. That is why it is critical to control who uses certificates and how, and to log all activity, for security and traceability.
The Solution
What does Redtrust do?
Redtrust protects companies’ digital identity by centralizing certificate storage and giving organizations control over the entire certificate lifecycle. It lets them define usage policies, monitor certificate use, and run detailed audits, strengthening stronger certificate security and supporting compliance across your digital operations.
Can I control who accesses certificates with Redtrust?
Yes. Redtrust lets you control exactly who can access and use each digital certificate. With the platform, you can:
- Set specific permissions by user, team, or system
- Control which certificates each person can use
- Monitor usage in real time
- Log all activity for auditing
This strengthens security, provides full traceability, and helps prevent unauthorized use of your certificates.
Does Redtrust notify me when certificates are about to expire?
Yes. Redtrust sends configurable alerts as certificates approach their expiration date, so you can renew them proactively and avoid downtime.
Which operating systems is Redtrust compatible with?
Redtrust is compatible with Windows, macOS, and Linux, and works with major web browsers.
What deployment options does Redtrust offer?
Redtrust offers several deployment options to meet the needs of companies of different sizes and with varying IT resources. For cloud deployment, you can choose between the Cloud and Cloud MSP versions, both of which store certificates in the cloud. Redtrust is also available on-premises in HSM and Virtual Machine versions. With an on-premises deployment, the server that stores your certificates runs within infrastructure you control, and you are responsible for maintaining its availability.
How does certificate-based authentication (CBA) work with Redtrust?
Certificate-based authentication (CBA) lets employees access corporate systems using a digital certificate instead of a username and password. With Redtrust, certificates are stored centrally in an encrypted repository, and the company defines which users can use each one, when, which services they can access.
